Regional connectivity and link between scales and dynamics

M1-42 (Lead: DMI and Hereon, partners: Hereon, DMI, Deltares, FMI, IMR, SOCIB)

This task aims to evaluate the adequacy of observations and technology, identifying gaps and making recommendations for resolving regional connectivity and multi-scale processes in the land-coast-open sea continuum in an integrated monitoring-modelling framework. The work will be done through survey, literature review and modelling/instrument/product analysis as necessary. The addressed topics are of high relevance for different communities and will be prioritised according to the strategy defined in D1.1 (WP1). The work will make use of information on observation and modelling systems used in IRSs and PSSsprovided by WP3 and WP4 respectively.  Outcomes will be reported in D2.3.

Subtask 2.4.1 Integrated monitoring modelling for regional connectivity (Hereon, DMI)

This subtask will investigate current state-of-the-art and future cost-effective solutions for monitoring (both in-situ and remote sensing) and modelling the regional connectivity between Baltic and North Sea. Major observational / technological gaps in the existing systems will be identified and recommendations for future improvements will be made (MS2.4 & 2.5). Links with CMEMS MFCs in the Baltic and NW Shelf Seas will be established.

Subtask 2.4.2 Integrated monitoring-modelling for estuary-coast-open sea continuum (DMI, Hereon, Deltares, FMI, IMR, SOCIB)

Each partner will investigate current state-of-the-art and future cost-effective solutions on integrated monitoring (both in-situ and remote sensing) and modelling for the estuary-coast-open sea continuum in their national waters. Major observational and technological gaps in the existing systems will be identified and potential future solutions will be recommended, especially regarding the improvements of CMEMS coastal service and national applications by EuroGOOS members (MS2.4 & 2.5).
