AtlantOS Ocean Hour – Democratizing Ocean Observation through low cost technologies

Date
14/09/2022

On 14th September 2022, AtlantOS will hold their monthly meeting ‘The Ocean Hour’ titled ‘Democratizing Ocean Observation through low cost technologies’. This event will take place virtually at 10 am (EST) via Zoom.

The Ocean Hour is designed to engage the scientific community in discussions related to citizen science and the use of low-cost and low-tech ocean observations. Speakers will cover the unconventional and effective ways these tools have been used in projects, including sailboats for wind predicting, surfboards for water collection, canoes for HAB monitoring, and the development of open source CTDs.

During the meeting, speakers involved in projects will share their expertise on current and future challenges, and address the rise of low-cost, efficient, and creative methods of collecting ocean observation tools. These tools have accelerated a citizen science-centred user-led community which will enhance the goals of the United Nation’s Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
