Task 3.2. Development of regional IRS strategy and business and sustainability plans
M1-M38 (Lead: IRB partners: NIVA, OGS, IH, AZTI, SMHI, IMR, and regional WGs)
In order to address region-specific and region-wide challenges, each IRS will develop region-specific observational strategies and will propose region-specific roadmaps for improvement according to the identified gaps, as well as business and sustainability plans. The following are the identified observational purposes and societal needs prioritized in JERICO-S3:
WG-NA: Climate change and anthropogenic pressure on a highly sensitive and variable ecosystem with naturally occurring steep ecological gradients; Hazards and coastal risks due to climate change; Variability due to river flooding and sediment transport.
WG-IB: Support during crises at sea (oil spill , search and rescue) and operational risk management at coasts and ports; Implementation and monitoring of MSFD indicators; Transboundary processes and connectivity.
WG-BB: Response of the coastal ocean to the contributions of large rivers in a highly hydrodynamic environment; Transport of floating marine litter and plastic pollution; New approaches for surface coastal current retrieval from in-situ and satellite multisensor information.
WG-KS: Impact of eutrophication, climate variability, climate change, and land-sea interactions on marine ecosystem services, biodiversity, and eutrophication.
WG-NS: Impact of climate variability and climate change on security and risk management of marine ecosystem services including aquaculture and fisheries; Climate change effects on biodiversity and eutrophication.
Through participation of IRSs in the ARWs, this task will directly share these regional approaches with task 1.2 (WP1) through D3.1 as a preliminary version, then in D3.4 as a final version after implementation of the following tasks. Progress towards sustainability and ESFRI readiness will be developed in collaboration with WP9 and will also be reported in these deliverables.
