The OGS (Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e di Geofisica Sperimentale) is an Italian public-sector scientific institution which promotes, co-ordinates and carries out basic and applied research in the fields of Oceanography (physical, chemical and biological oceanography), Geophysics (including experimental and exploration geophysics) and Marine Geology. Located in Trieste in northeast Italy, it presently employs about 244 people, and is organized into 6 sections. 4 sections - Oceanography, Geophysics, the Seismological Research Centre, and Infrastructures - are concerned with research, while 2 (Administration and Technical Services) are responsible for the management of the Institute. The Oceanography Section of the OGS has extensive experience and expertise in designing, managing and operating marine observing infrastructure. It has developed, and is presently running, a comprehensive, distributed real-time marine monitoring system in the northern Adriatic Sea.

Main tasks attributed under Work Packages:

Co-leader of WP2: Harmonisation of technologies and methodologies - technical strategy, which is concerned with harmonizing technologies, methodologies and procedures across the JERICO network to ensure efficiency and optimal returns, and enhance the consistency of services and products.

  • Co-leader of Task 2.1: Coordination of network harmonization
  • Co-leader of Task 2.5: Calibration and assessment
  • Co-leader of Task 2.6: The JERICO Label Technical Committee in WP2: Harmonisation of technologies and methodologies - technical strategy, which will carry forward the work being done on the “JERICO Label” in the EU-JERICO project, with the aim of normalizing operating practices across the JERICO network and establishing a general consensus-based “benchmark” for similar coastal observing infrastructure in Europe.
