JERICO Plankton Workshop

Who is the workshop for?
Participants in JERICO-NEXT workpackages 3.1 and 4.1 and a few other invited persons
 
Aims
  • To improve the understanding of plankton diversity, spatial and temporal distribution and the
    development of algal blooms in the sea. Harmful algae will be in focus.
  • To exchange experiences of using devices aimed at automated observations of
    phytoplankton including harmful algae. Instruments include multispectral fluorometers, flow
    cytometers and in situ video systems.
  • To compare the performance of different instruments. Note: a proper scientific inter-
    comparison of instruments with replicated samples etc. is not the aim of the workshop.
  • To promote cooperation and to plan future work in WP3.1 and 4.1.

Where to stay
Recommended accommodation: Dockyard Hotel (a few hundred meters from SMHI). Cost 795 SEK (~€75) per night including breakfast. Make sure to make you reservation early. Costs
All costs except for the meeting venue and the visit at the Tångesund observatory will be covered by workshop participants (DAFF, who have no funding in JERICO-NEXT may receive funding for travel costs directly from the project). This means that participants will have to pay for travel, accommodation and food. Funding or the JERICO-NEXT project can be used. SMHI will provide meeting room, a large laboratory for the hands on work with instruments. Seawater with plankton and minor laboratory equipment will be available.

Preregistration – as soon as possible, preferably before 1 April 2016
Firm commitment for participation – deadline 28 June 2016
